ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS (OBD)

Telematics data collection methods can vary depending on the telematics system. Most newer systems include an Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) feature that conveys vehicle performance data such as emissions or fuel efficiency, but also can send and receive vehicle-specific information, such as VIN, or where, when, and how each is used. Many telematics systems also measure key maintenance metrics, such engine hours or mileage, which helps identify regular service intervals. The data transfers via the onboard computer, or, in the case of smaller or unpowered equipment, through an external activity tracker attached to each asset that communicates through a central gateway. Either way, telematics data is sent to the Cloud and then promptly displayed on a dashboard. In some systems, this data can also be exported to Reports or uploaded to ERP systems through a pre-set API.

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE & OPERATOR SAFETY

Monitoring vehicle statistics through telematics reporting increases the accuracy and effectiveness of preventative maintenance plans. Tracking essential vehicle diagnostics allows for a more proactive approach to maintenance vs an expensive (and time-consuming) reactive effort when things go wrong. Being able to identify and diagnose many issues remotely also limits the amount of travel and on-site time required by maintenance staff.
A vehicle telematics system not only provides data about a vehicle or piece of equipment but also supplies key information about those operating that vehicle. Data points like speed or acceleration, braking, idle time, or other key aspects of operating a vehicle are equally to the safety of a jobsite. Using the data collected around speed or other hazardous driving practices, managers can make decisions and implement safety training efforts to always keep both the vehicles and their operators safe. This data is also helpful during any insurance audits where providers need access to the appropriate information to accurately assign risk levels and set insurance premiums.
From creating more efficient driver routes to fuel reduction efforts, telematics data helps reduce operational expenses. For fleets covered under IFTA regulations, a telematics system can automatically calculate and report to the association data regarding fuel usage/costs and distance driven. Maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies both keeps organizations in good standing with them and lessens the chance of an audit over time.

WHAT DO I OWN? WHERE IS IT? AND WHEN IS IT BEING USED? DON’T WONDER. KNOW. WITH THE ROOSTER ASSET TRACKING SYSTEM

The Rooster Asset Tracking System consists of GPS Hubs, Activity Trackers, and the Rooster App Portal.
Rooster Hubs are robust data gateways that accommodate OBD meter reading and telematics reporting for heavy duty trucks and construction equipment using the SAEJ1939 standard. They connect to the Cloud every 8 minutes through a cellular network to deliver GPS location, activity and telematics data.
Rooster Activity Trackers are small, rugged devices that, once deployed, capture activity on a minute-by-minute basis, for up to 5 years. Activity Trackers hold data up to 30 days and transmit that data to Rooster Hubs up to ½ mile away, or through most concrete and metal to Hubs nearby using a patented pairing protocol based on the LoRa® long-range networking standard and protected by more than a dozen patents issued and pending. This ½ mile range is the longest construction IoT tracking solution on the market today. It is simple to use, easy to scale, no contract. Learn more.
